Mézières and Christin have done something that almost no one had done before: after 43 years at the helm, they decided of their own accord to conclude the adventures of their heroes. The three titles in this volume (At the Edge of the Great Void, The Order of the Stones and The Time Opener) bring things full circle and establish the definitive end of the story. No need for tears, though. As the extras explain, the very nature of their universe – full of time travel and the occasional paradox – leaves the door wide open to new possibilities: anthologies of flashbacks, one-shots by other creators, and adaptations in different media, such as … cinema!

Creator Dossier

Jean-Claude Mézières
Jean-Claude Mézières (1938–2022) was a visionary French comic book artist and illustrator, best known as the co-creator and defining artist of the seminal science fiction saga Valérian and Laureline. His richly detailed, wildly imaginative depictions of alien worlds, bizarre creatures, and futuristic technology completely revolutionized European sci-fi comics. Mézières's groundbreaking designs were famously highly influential on the visual aesthetic of the Star Wars franchise, and he later worked directly as a conceptual designer on Luc Besson's sci-fi blockbuster The Fifth Element, which drew heavy inspiration from his work on Valérian.

Pierre Christin
Pierre Christin (1938–2024) was an acclaimed French comic book writer and a pioneering figure in European sequential art. As the co-creator and writer of Valérian and Laureline, Christin helped redefine the sci-fi genre in the 1960s and 70s by infusing it with complex political, social, and feminist themes, moving the medium away from simple pulp action into mature, thought-provoking storytelling. Beyond his legendary partnership with Jean-Claude Mézières, Christin collaborated with European comic masters like Enki Bilal on critically lauded works such as The Black Order Brigade and The Hunting Party.
