Creator Dossier

Ed Brubaker
Ed Brubaker is an American comic book writer and screenwriter widely regarded as the modern master of crime fiction in comics. He is best known for his prolific, multi-Eisner Award-winning collaboration with artist Sean Phillips, co-creating defining noir epics such as Criminal, The Fade Out, Fatale, and Kill or Be Killed. Before focusing exclusively on creator-owned projects at Image Comics, Brubaker wrote definitive runs for DC and Marvel Comics, where his acclaimed tenure on Captain America famously introduced the Winter Soldier.

Sean Phillips
Sean Phillips is an acclaimed British comic book artist and the premier illustrator of modern noir comics. He is best known for his decades-long, award-winning partnership with writer Ed Brubaker, serving as the co-creator and artist for critically celebrated titles like Criminal, Sleeper, Fatale, and Reckless. Phillips' cinematic use of heavy shadows, grounded character acting, and gritty realism perfectly anchors the dark, psychological tone of their shared universe. Outside of his work with Brubaker, Phillips has a storied history in British comics and Vertigo, notably illustrating Hellblazer and Batman: Gotham Noir.
